Alcohol and young people

It is a fact: young people consume alcohol at an increasingly early age and quite often until drunkenness.

The phenomenon binge drinking - consumption of large amounts of alcohol over a very short period - is widespread among adolescents seeking thrills, greatly increasing the risks related to these excesses: violence, unprotected sex, coma ethyl, road accidents, etc.

Regular consumption of alcohol is the leading cause of liver cirrhosis in France.

Effects ... wanted

In young people, as in adults, alcohol is the most consumed psychoactive substance in France. A psychoactive product acts on the functioning of the brain: it modifies the consciousness and the perceptions, and therefore also the behaviors. These are the effects that young people are looking for. By this intoxication, they disinhibit themselves, feel more funny ... but above all stronger, and these behaviors make them take risks without realizing it.

Premix (a mixture of soda and strong alcohol), whiskey, vodka and beer are the most popular spirits for teens. But very often, they do not just have a drink. They drink excessively, to "be in the mood, " and to control nothing.

Where and when do they consume?

The weekend is undoubtedly the most conducive period for drinking, although evening family dinners can also be an opportunity to enjoy a glass of wine. We stay away from the excessive consumption observed between friends, but it is however not to be taken lightly.

In the parental home

It is often in the parental home that regular drinking of young people begins. A glass of champagne for the new year at only 11 years old, a glass of wine to drink with the guests at 13, these are behaviors that the majority of parents underestimate. These invitations open the way for repeated and uncontrolled alcoholization outside the home. Note that the average age of first intoxication is 15 years.

At the friends' house

The home of friends is probably the place where boundaries do not exist (or less). Parents are often unaware of these appointments, or at least they do not suspect what they are doing there. Teenagers buy themselves bottles of alcohol and fill their glasses without any dose restrictions. They feel out of danger inside and push their consumption to the extreme: challenges, mixtures, dry ass, etc.

Pubs and discotheques

Pubs often come to be frequented after a night out with friends, where the alcohol has already been consumed. Alcoholic beverages in these places are relatively expensive (about 8 to 10 euros, glass), young people tend to consume between them before going there.

Consumption alone or during the week are much rarer. They are often synonymous with malaise, depression or dependence.
