Allergies: treatments

To fight the allergy it is not enough to take drugs during crises. People who suffer from it must also learn to avoid exposures to substances for which they are allergic.

So avoid pets if the hair triggers bursts of sneezing. Mite allergy sufferers are well advised to regularly vacuum their home, to use well adapted bedding, and to sufficiently ventilate their habitat.

Similarly in case of food allergy, it is necessary to monitor carefully the composition of the dishes especially in the restaurant. Some foods like peanut are present in many preparations, and sauces and its presence is not always mentioned.

Other tips, among others:

- If you suffer from asthma, and you take a long walk, think about having your spray treatment to take in case of crisis.

- In case of skin allergy, the doctor often advises care products sold in pharmacies (creams, lotions ...) to properly hydrate the skin. They are useful and unfortunately not reimbursed by health insurance.

The use of drugs is of course sometimes necessary in case of crisis or when the removal of the allergen is impossible (this is the case of pollen). Anti-histamine treatments, and more exceptionally, anti-inflammatories (cortisone) may be sufficient to treat certain allergies. But, it happens that these treatments are insufficient. The use of an adrenaline pen-injector may be necessary in case of violent allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock).

Desensitization is a treatment that reduces or even stops the reaction of the body to a specific substance (the allergen).

It can be performed in an injectable (subcutaneous) manner. For several months, the doctor performs an injection containing the allergy-causing agent about once a week in a very gradual manner (starting at very low doses). The other way, safer and more practical, is sublingually (in the form of drops or tablets to put under the tongue). Usually to be performed every morning. This last method of desensitization tends to replace that carried out by injections.

Note that to treat food allergies, desensitization patches should be available soon ...

Hysteroscopy consists in introducing an endoscope (a miniature camera at the end of a tube) into the cavity of the uterus and which makes it possible to directly visualize a fibroid, to look for a cancer
