Atherosclerosis: the causes

The causes of atherosclerosis and the reasons for the thickening of the arterial wall and the formation of atheromatous plaques are better known. This plaque results from the accumulation of bad cholesterol and cellular debris. It constitutes a kind of abscess of the arterial wall. As long as the plaque does not prevent the blood from flowing, the disease is silent, causing no symptoms.

The symptoms of atherosclerosis usually occur at age 60 for men and 65-70 years for women.
