Burns: the symptoms

The symptoms of burns change depending on the importance (depth and extent) of this burn.

The depth of the burn is evaluated in 1st, 2nd or 3rd degree.

- 1st degree: it is the classic sunburn with the appearance of localized redness and pain. It is not serious and does not require special care apart from a soothing cream proposed by the pharmacist or the doctor.

- 2nd degree: the characteristic symptom is the appearance of translucent blisters (filled with a liquid) called phlyctenes. The depth of the lesion is difficult to evaluate, it is the evolution that will make it possible to say if the burn was deep with a difficult or superficial cicatrization, with a fast and correct cicatrization. Symptom as important of this type of burn: it is very painful.

More precisely, there is a superficial 2nd degree burn, and a 2nd degree deep burn.

- 3rd degree: the 3rd degree burn is serious, it affects the skin and the associated tissues, the nerve endings, the blood vessels, sometimes the muscles, the tendons, the bones or the viscera. The skin is cardboard, white or charred with an attack on the underlying tissues.

In addition to the symptoms related to skin lesions, the patient may develop other problems depending on the importance of this burn, such as hypovolemia (massive and brutal dehydration), gastric ulcer ...
