Sensitive teeth: treatments

The treatments depend on the cause that is causing the sensitive teeth.

In the presence of cavities, it is necessary to quickly see a dental surgeon, so that he can treat the decay as soon as possible. In the case of decayed teeth that have been treated with a filling, the tooth sensitivity may indicate that it needs to be repaired.

In the event of retraction of the gums, it is advisable to consult a dentist so that it can intervene quickly and avoid that the phenomenon of loosening of the tooth gets worse.

The proposed treatment will depend on the degree of loosening of the tooth. If the retraction of the gum is at the very beginning, the dentist will begin by advising the patient to use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth, and will probably treat the surface of his teeth with a desensitizing varnish.

In case of significant loosening of the gingiva, he will consider a gingival graft treatment, which consists of making a small sample of gum to cover the part of the tooth now discovered.

Are descaling or bleaching contraindicated?

In patients with dental sensitivity, scaling can increase tooth awareness, especially during the days following treatment. But this is not a reason to give up scaling, which on the contrary makes it possible to treat the causes of all gingivitis and to improve dental sensitivities.

Moreover, it is not advisable to do a tooth whitening on bare or decayed teeth. The products used for these treatments can further attack the teeth and make them even more sensitive. It is the dentist who will judge the opportunity to bleach, depending on the condition of the patient's teeth.
