Indication

EPILEPSY :
AT THE ADULT:
. in monotherapy,
. in combination with another anti-epileptic treatment:
- Treatment of generalized epilepsies: tonic-clonic seizures.
- Treatment of partial epilepsies: partial seizures with or without secondary generalization.
IN THE CHILD:
. in monotherapy,
. in combination with another anti-epileptic treatment:
- Treatment of generalized epilepsies: tonic-clonic seizures.
- Treatment of partial epilepsies: partial seizures with or without secondary generalization.
TREATMENT OF NEVRALGIA OF TRIJUMEAU .

Dosage DI-HYDAN 100 mg Breakable tablet Box of 60

The dosage of DI-HYDAN should be established and adjusted if appropriate, taking into account the effects observed, the tolerance specific to each patient and, if possible, the blood levels.
- Adults:
2 to 6 mg / kg and per day in 1 or 2 doses.
The usual average dose is 3 tablets a day.
The dose of 5 to 6 tablets, sometimes necessary, will never be exceeded.
- Child:
3 to 8 mg / kg and daily in 1 or 2 doses.
. From 5 to 10 years, 1 to 2 tablets in the treatment of attack, then it will be necessary to determine the appropriate dosage.
. Very young children : the initial dose will be 1/2 tablet twice a day, then adapted according to efficacy and tolerance. The tablet should be crushed before administration.

Against indications

CONTRAINDICATED:
This medicine MUST NEVER BE prescribed in the following case:
Hypersensitivity to phenytoin, hydantoin derivatives, or any of the constituents of the product.
- in case of hypersensitivity or intolerance to gluten due to the presence of wheat starch (gluten).
- Treatment with Saquinavir and certain cytotoxic drugs: doxorubicin, daunorubicin, carboplatin, cisplatin, carmustine, vincristine, vinblastine, bleomycin, methotrexate, busulfan, ifosfamide, etoposide, teniposide (phenytoin for prophylaxis).
- In combination with St. John's wort.
NOT RECOMMENDED :
- Breast-feeding: There are no data on the passage into breast milk. Therefore, as a precaution, this medication should not be used in women who are breastfeeding.
- Associations advised against : antifungal azoles (itraconazole); chloramphenicol (general route); cimetidine (> = 800 mg / day); disulfiram; estrogen and progestin (contraceptives); phenylbutazone (general route); sulfamethoxazole, sulfafurazole, sulfamethizol (general route).

Adverse effects DI-Hydan

- Hypersensitivity:
. Hypersensitivity syndrome can occur.
. The rare occurrence of cross reactions between phenytoin, carbamazepine and phenobarbital should make it prudent to replace phenytoin with either of these molecules.
- Digestive:
nausea, vomiting.
- Oral:
gingival hypertrophy, relatively frequent (20% of cases).
- Nervous:
dizziness, visual disturbances, nausea, ataxia, mental confusion, cerebellovestibular syndrome; usually associated with an overdose or a failure of hepatic metabolism with abnormally high serum levels.
- Hematologic:
. rare and sometimes fatal complications: thrombocytopenia, granulocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia.
. megaloblastic anemia: rare; therapeutic correction is often desirable during pregnancy.
. pseudolymphomatous adenopathies.
- Dermal:
. skin rash quite frequently; hirsutism, polymorphic erythema; relatively rare urticaria.
. brown pigmentations of the face and neck.
- Various:
cholestatic jaundice; hyperglycemia.
