Tasteless diabetes: treatments

Once the diagnosis of diabetes insipidus has been established, a specific treatment will be put in place.

It is usually a medical specialist endocrinologist who initiates the treatment and follows the patient (with the general practitioner).

The patient can also be treated in a hospital nephrology department (specialized in kidney diseases).

In case of central diabetes insipidus (DIC), the prescribed treatment is synthetic anti-diuretic hormone, desmopressin, Lyoc tablets, or nasal spray, 2 to 3 times daily, or by subcutaneous injections when the Inispidic diabetes is severe.

In case of nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (DIN), the treatment is based on taking a particular diuretic drug that limits urinary "leakage", a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that stimulates renal function receptors, and, paradoxically, on a low salt diet.

The purpose of these treatments is to fight against water imbalances in the body. It will at the same time fight against the symptoms that often alter the daily life of the patient: fatigue, headaches, irritability, weight loss ...

Note that there is a French Association of diabetes insipidus (which brings together people affected or affected by this disease).
