Diabetes: medical surveillance

Medical surveillance is very important to properly evaluate the effectiveness of treatment, especially to avoid the complications of diabetes. Repeated consultations (sometimes with different doctors, such as an ophthalmologist for the eyes) are essential.

Different examinations are mandatory, in particular, blood tests.

HbA1C (glycated hemoglobin), which is a kind of "memory" of blood sugar, which should be kept as low as 6 or even 7%, is regularly dosed according to the treatment and the importance of diabetes.

Our advices

  • You are often thirsty, you urinate often, you feel tired ... these simple signs should prompt you to consult to possibly take a blood test to measure your blood sugar.
  • If you have diabetes, especially when it requires insulin, medical monitoring is important and should be frequent ... which is restrictive and can be discouraging for you.
  • If you have diabetes, think of your feet ! In diabetes, these are very vulnerable. Because of the neurological and vascular disorders caused by this disease, you risk having a small wound without suffering, which worsens ... and that it will be difficult to treat. It is important to examine your feet often, to intervene quickly.
