autism

Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) that manifests itself as maladjustment to the social and family environment and an inability to communicate with others.

Autism is part of Autism Spectrum Disorders, among which there is also Asperger Syndrome. Around the world, many teams of researchers working with parents of children with autism are working on this pathology. Behind this diagnosis lies a whole range of symptoms and behaviors, the existence and intensity of which vary from one child to another. These symptoms constitute a handicap, the consequences of which can be severe at the family, social and professional levels.

Many factors are mentioned to explain autism but none has yet proven its role in the onset of this disease: genetic factors, neuro-anatomical, functional abnormalities of the brain, environmental factors, biological, immunological .. .

However, one thing is certain: the earlier and more appropriate care is taken, the more likely the disorder is to subside. If autism treatment methods are discussed today, all are aimed at giving the child a maximum chance of growing up. This, by promoting his ability to adapt and communicate, and by teaching him to enjoy his skills.

In France, autism was declared a national cause in 2012, and is the subject of a third Autism Plan for 2013-2017. This plan is the subject of much debate and opposition on the part of professionals regarding policies, judged by some to be inadequate and inadequate.
