Keratitis

Keratitis is the alteration of the cornea, that is, the transparent anterior part of the eyeball.

It should not be confused with a conjunctivitis that affects the conjunctiva (what is called the white of the eye in everyday language) and is a very thin membrane that covers the front of the eye ...

Conjunctivitis can associate or evolve into keratitis. But it touches one of the most important tissues of the eye; it is therefore more serious: the cornea transmitting light to the lens and the retina, its deterioration compromises vision.

But be reassured, this common acute pathology is very well known to ophthalmologists doctors and treats very well without leaving a legacy in the vast majority of cases. Nevertheless, it is particularly painful (see symptoms), so avoid it!

Notice to lens wearers (preferred target of keratitis of all kinds). Failure to comply with hygiene rules, wearing times, handling and maintenance of his lenses, exposes him to an increased risk of keratitis.

The good reflex: an annual visit to the ophthalmologist to take stock reduces the risk of keratitis.
