The recommended dietary intakes vary according to the level of physical activity of the pregnant woman but range from about 2, 000 kcal / d in the first trimester to 2, 200 kcal / d in the second and third trimester (15 to 20% protein, 30% fat, 55% carbohydrate).

Below 1, 600 kcal / day, fetal growth can be compromised. The diet of the pregnant woman should count every day: 4 dairy products or equivalent (1000mg of calcium), 5 fruits or vegetables, 2 servings of proteins, 15 to 30 ml of various oils, 1.5 liters of water .

If we now know that the pregnant woman should not eat twice as much as normal, that does not change the fact that she will take a number of pounds during pregnancy - which is essential for her and her baby who continues to grow in her belly, day after day. In fact, the advised weight gain is 11 kilos, or 1 kilo per month, plus 1 kg during the last two months. However, it all depends on the morphology of the woman before pregnancy: a lean woman is more likely to have a child of low weight, so it will have to eat more than a strong woman who has more risk of giving birth to a big baby.

If the pregnant woman will obviously take into account the general rules of a healthy and balanced diet, there are, in addition to the daily indications above, some rules and precautions specific to the pregnancy that must be respected. Indeed, to avoid certain risks of infection and other inconveniences, some foods and specific products are to be excluded from the diet of the pregnant woman.
