Following a high fiber diet can help you lose weight. Why ? On the one hand because the plants that are privileged are sources of fiber, and these are very interesting from a nutritional point of view: they are low in calories, but rich in vitamins and minerals.
On the other hand because the fibers play a vital role in the regulation of appetite and weight. The fibers facilitate the intestinal transit. Food once digested, the faecal bowl is accelerated. A diet rich in fiber tends to increase the weight of the stool and the speed of transit.
The role of the fibers on the appetite is also demonstrated: in the stomach, the fibers increase in volume, resulting in a feeling of satiety. They also slow down the passage of sugar in the blood, which limits the risk of cravings, and by extension, untimely weight gain.
Finally, fiber tends to lower the absorption of fat in food: the fibers and fats are mixed in the food bowl, which facilitates their elimination.
In fact, there are two types of fibers:
- the soluble fibers which, mixed with water, will be like a gel (apples, strawberries ...) rich in pectin;
- insoluble fiber (bran, cereals, vegetables, fruits ...).
But also pay attention to possible deficiencies: it is important not to ban certain nutrients (proteins, lipids), and continue to eat meat, starchy foods, certain fats ...
