Ovulation: the ovulation test

The ovulation test detects the presence of hormones (LH) in the urine. It is this hormone that causes the release of the egg each month. A peak secretion of this hormone released by a small gland located under the brain, occurs 36 to 24 hours before ovulation.

This test can be done a few days before the middle of its cycle. This test measures this hormone present in the urine.

Fecundating intercourse should be done before ovulation, usually during the four days preceding theoretical ovulation. Ovulation is calculated from previous cycles. It occurs 14 days before the start of menstruation. If you want to be pregnant and the test is positive, it is recommended to have sex within 48 hours. The earlier the better.

These ovulation tests can be bought in pharmacies or supermarkets.

Warning : this ovulation test can not be used as a method of contraception, avoiding all sexual intercourse during the period of fertility and therefore ovulation. Using this test for this purpose is not reliable!

When can we have a child?

It depends on several factors, such as sperm lifespan, egg life, and ovulation period. Spermatozoa survive in the cervix for 3 to 5 days.

In contrast, the egg has a lifespan of 12 hours to 24 hours.

The fertility period is usually between 4 days before ovulation and 24 hours after ovulation.

There are several ways to know the day of ovulation that occurs 14 days before the next period.

Should we worry if the pregnancy does not come?

"We want a child, we have been trying for several months and I am still not pregnant ... what is the problem?"

Faced with this concern, it is important to remember essential information: if you are not pregnant within the year before the age of 35, you can start asking questions and consulting. Young couples, even when the best conditions are met, have only one in five chance to procreate at each cycle. After 35 years, as fertility will quickly decrease, it is better not to wait before consulting his gynecologist because time is running out.

In case the baby does not come as fast as we imagine or hope, no need to panic, and especially not to forget the essential; if you have regular sex, you put all the chances on your side to get pregnant quickly.

The causes of infertility are very numerous. In 45% of the cases the causes are feminine, in 45% of the cases, the causes are masculine, in 10% of the cases, the causes are poorly known.

Among the female causes, there are so-called mechanical causes, infectious causes, hormonal causes, and many others. All these exams are covered by the Health Insurance. Exploring infertility requires patience .... a lot of patience.
