Carpal tunnel syndrome: The advice of the specialist doctor

Interview with Prof. Christian Dumontier, orthopedic surgeon at the Institut de la main and Hôpital Saint-Antoine (Paris).

What attitude to adopt in case of tingling at night?

Do not wait to see your doctor. I often see patients, mostly men, not very sensitive to pain, who arrive at the last moment. The muscles of the thumb have melted, they have no strength in the hands and they have already lost all their sensitivity in the fingers. However, the different treatments are all the more effective as the nerve is not too damaged. The surgery will of course help them but it will take time to recover their sensitivity. And, unfortunately, muscle wasting is almost irreversible.

What are the results and risks of the operation?

As with any operation, complications are possible, including hypersensitivity of the nerve or algodystrophy, characterized by swelling of the fingers. But, most of the time, it goes well. A few days later, the patient no longer suffers from tingling at night. Only 10% of people who have had surgery continue to experience tingling from time to time. But, these "ants" appear from time to time, most often with the effort, when one taps in his hand for example. Side sensitivity, it will take longer to regain its capabilities before the disease. But, overall, after six months, everything is back to normal.

Even with modern imaging techniques (CT, MRI), the precise cause of pain can not be established for at least 50% of low back pain

The chancre is visible if it is on the penis, on the testicles, at the level of the vulva, on the lips. But it can go unnoticed if it appears in the mouth, in the anus, in the vagina or on the cervix

Solar allergy treatments will depend on the type of allergic reaction to sun exposure. 1 - Treatment of benign summer lucite and polymorphous lucite.
